Homesickness

Every once in awhile a busy traveller (scratch that, AIESECer/expat who lives abroad) gets a bit homesick. Some of us live on other sides of the world and are so far from home that it is near to impossible to make it back.

Why is it that two out of my past three experiences abroad, my homesicknesses has been 100%, "I MISS TUNISIA!"? I am eliminating one of those three because it was when I was back in Tunis.

If home is where you were born, that is not Tunis. If home is where your family is, that is not Tunis. If home is even where you plan to live and have a family of your own, that is not Tunis for me either!

So why? This is because Tunis symbolizes something for me. It was my first time where I really felt like a citizen of the world, I was doing something that changed my life forever and met people who will forever impact me.

It also has to do with the fact that even the most seemingly random people I met in Tunis will bombard me with messages or emails at the most random time ever...when I am homesick!

Love you Tunis, Aishek!

IT is quiet funny how we react differently to a new situation eventhough they resemble the same experience. But due to the environment, the ppl, and one's expectancy and level of adapting, we feel homesick at countries we think we might adapt easily...

For me, A2 has been home since the moment I put a foot in it, but when compared with DC, I LOVE DC because it is my first experience in the US and living away from the family...

Those first experiences that shape us are the most important... Just enjoy them all ..

Gaigi....miss that %$&^*$. I think he is pissed at me for the whole work thing the day before I left Tunis, gotta get in touch with him.

Hana, enjoy every minute. My Bahrain, your A2, my Tunis, your DC, funny how we share experiences and can relate so easily.

Dude, I agree with you. I miss Brisbane like it's my own home. But then again, I spent 5 years living there, so it really is like my second home. I'm loving my every second in Tunis now. Envy me if you want to envy me... Nyer! :p
